1967 Volkswagen Beetle - $12,000 - huntersville, NC -

1967 Volkswagen Beetle,  This is literally the little ol' lady's car. She asked us to sell it for her. She loved this car so much she had it totally restored. Everything: rebuilt engine, all mechanicals; great red paint, new interior, brakes, steering, etc. I have driven this car 200 miles and it was very stable being built for the high speed Autobahns. Said 83 was top speed but I ran it 3 miles at 90 and it was as stable as a NASCAR car. I wove in and out of trucks, etc., and it was magnificent but that is the way of German engineering.

The 1967 model has been hailed as the best ever. VW went with disc brakes, a new 1500 cc engine that puts out 53 hp for this 1700 pound car enabling it to hold its own anywhere as it was designed for the no speed limit autobahns of Germany. This engine was earlier developed to give more power to the Microbus.

If you google this car you will find many mentions that the 1967 Beetle was the best ever made and that is saying something with the high quality German engineering that has abounded VWs for decades.

Neatest thing about this car is that you can own a classic and have fun with it also. Perfect for students and commuters. You can park it anywhere particularly in these narrow parking decks (did the architects think all cars were this size?) and garages.

Why buy this? First, I am a classic car collector and I believe that the price on these good ones will go up particularly this model. Second, while this is a classic it is one that you can DRIVE every day and have fun doing it. Perfect for the student and commuter. Or you can put it in the garage and reminense and take it out on Sundays for fun. Next anybody with a few metric wrenches, pliers and a coat hangar can work on this car it is so simple. What a way to teach your kids how to actually work on a car! Next, it is really fun to drive with a front suspension that actually ended up on the front of many LeMans cars (I had one and when people expected some high tech front end they would say "what's that." When I said 67 VW they were shocked expecting some high dollar carbon fiber setup that cost as much jet aircraft parts.

I have a lot of favorites from my 50 years in the NASCAR/Indy car business and also from putting on countless classic car auctions with my friends the Kruse family, Tom Mack and others. I cannot think of how practical and inexpensive to have an investment car like this neat VW. The car is located in Belmont N.C.

Belmont is  next to the Charlotte airport on I-85. Right in the heart of NASCAR country.
