The G-body El Camino, which ran from 1982 to 1987 was the best of the breed. Under the hood is a 305 cubic inch V8 that sounds great, thanks to some exhaust headers and throaty mufflers. Inside, a tastefully re-done black and red interior is comfortable and roomy. A-pillar gauges were added to indicate oil pressure and water temperature to give a better read-out than the factory setup, but everything works as it should. There’s even a high quality modern stereo that fills the cabin with sound, thanks in part to the 6x9 speakers in the smuggler’s box compartment behind the seat.
