The 1965 Corvette continued on the success of the mid-year String Ray with subtle changes. The hood vents were removed, the trio of fender vents now effectively reduced engine heat and the wheel covers were redesigned. New for 1965 was a 396ci/425hp big block that essentially replaced the more expensive 327ci/375hp Fuel Injected motor. Also new were standard 4-wheel disc brakes that had an estimated life of 57,000 miles for the front and almost double for the rears. It proved to be a successful year and Chevrolet sold 23,562 examples!
We are very excited to represent this 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible! Finished in Rally Red (originally G-G Glen Green) over White Leather (originally 430 – Green Vinyl), this restored Corvette is heavily optioned. The car has a non-numbers matching rebuilt 350 motor with a Holley carb, double-hump heads, Winters aluminum intake and correct exhaust manifolds feeding side mount exhaust. In addition to a host of standard features, this Corvette is now equipped with Vintage AC and heat, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Soft-Ray tinted windshield, teakwood steering wheel, AM/FM/Cassette radio, floor mats and cast aluminum knock-off wheels with Uniroyal Tigerpaw AWP II 205/75R15 white line tires. Furthermore, the motor has been fitted with MSD ignition, coil, distributor and 8.5mm performance wires. In addition, the car has an electric cooling fan and HD clutch for the crank fan. Finally, a Be Cool radiator is a serious upgrade that keeps this car cool in 90+ degree weather with the AC on high.
Previously a Florida car, this restored example shows just 6,401 miles since restoration. It shows minor signs of wear, the most noticeable being subtle creases in the leather seats and bolsters. The modern conveniences make this car a true pleasure to drive: the power steering and brakes are always a plus, the radio is great for trips and the AC blows cold. We have an original style radiator and distributor / shrouding that will be included with the car. The car was lovingly restored and upgraded to be driven and we feel confident that the next owner will have a blast doing just that in a piece of American history! Please don’t hesitate to ask any additional questions! Thanks for looking!
