This "suicide door" Continental is in great original shape. It is a one owner, non smoker car, that has been registered every year since new. The owner is now 98 years old, and for the first time in his life, was not able to renew his driver’s license.
This car is completely original and un-restored. It was originally a California Desert car. It was always a “2nd car” for the owner, accounting for the low 113K miles. The car sustained right front corner damage 40 years ago that was properly repaired, and to this day is virtually undistinguishable from the original paint on the remainder of the car. Paint is outstanding, showing some “patina” of age, but no nicks, scratches, or chips to speak of.
The original nylon seat coverings are in superb shape with zero holes, tears, or snags. The material is tough enough to not show wear after all of these years. Often these seats have burn holes in them from a stray cigarette ash. Not so this car.
The car was meticulously mechanically maintained. The 462/340 hp motor runs strong and does not smoke. Trans works perfectly, and shifts smoothly.
This car listed for $6,130 when new. It was absolutely top of the line, and one of the most expensive automobiles of its era, thousands more than a top of the line Chevrolet or Ford, and hundreds more than a Cadi DeVille, or Chrysler New Yorker. The original quality shows through in this car in the well preserved details. Everything works – AC blows cold, engine runs strong, electric windows, door locks, everything.
Kelly Blue Book lists this car at $21,000. The reserve in this auction is a fraction of this price. This car will sell. Bid early, and strong if you would like to own this car.
