1969 Plymouth Road Runner - $41,995 - Fort Worth, TX - Those amazing purpose-built A12 Roadrunners have finally become such A-list collectables that tributes are the best way to have fun. Kind of funny that a car built for abuse on the track has become so valuable that nobody takes them out to play anymore. This is a real-deal B5 Blue car and while it seems a majority of the A12s you see are bright red or Hemi Orange this Blue bruiser still looks menacing. Since this one simply started out as a standard Road Runner it's probably led an easier life than a real A12 so the quarters haven't been wrinkled the structure is tight thanks to a life NOT spent at the race track and crisp details that look fantastic covered in modern paint. All the correct A12 hardware is there though including the butch fiberglass lift-off hood which offers just the right shade of satin black and proper "440 6BBL" decals that aren't just there for show. Both bumpers are nicer than anything coming out of the Hamtramck factory in '69 and the unobtainable grille up front is in outstanding condition. Bench seats a 4-speed and nothing but the essentials were the recipe for the A12's success on the track. If it didn't make the car go faster it wasn't installed it was just that simple. This one was restored with that philosophy in mind and the use of original materials and patterns gives it an honest look that celebrates simplicity and purpose. The gauges have been restored and include a rare optional tachometer which really was necessary given how fast the 440 zings to redline. Yes there's a radio plus heat and defrost but virtually no A12s were delivered without them so that's not a demerit (and you may actually prefer at least a few creature comforts between -mile passes). The trunk is neatly finished and experts will note that the quarters still have their factory-applied spray coating inside meaning they haven't been replaced. There's even a matching spare wheel and tire plus jack. The heart of the A12 was a 440 cubic inch mill topped by the Six Pack induction system. In the lightweight Road Runner it was formidable and in the hands of the right driver faster than the mighty Hemi. This one has been completely rebuilt and has a set of awesome custom built long tube headers that mimic the stock manifolds pretty nicely. Correct Hemi Orange paint reproduction clamps and hoses and a heavy-duty 26-inch radiator add to the A12 look under the hood. The chassis is beautifully finished and aside from Flowmaster mufflers is completely stock. It even wears correct H-code wheels which are stunningly difficult to find and reproduction G70-15 redline tires.
