1953 Aston Martin DB2 - Inquire - New York, NY - Every now and then a car comes along that really speaks to us in terms of history, provenance, and tribute. Case in point is the featured car here; a 1953 Aston Martin DB2 Saloon RHD. A gentleman’s driving machine, fresh from a thorough restoration completed in 2012, this well documented, four owner, numbers matching example is a true driving machine.
This Aston Martin is a barn find in every essence of the phrase, tucked away in 1969 for nearly 40 years before being unearthed and purchased by a gentleman in the United States. From the start there was a vision for the DB2’s restoration, to build a car that can be driven on the street but at the same time hold its own against similar GT cars on a circuit. This “Fast Road” spec is a stunningly accurate nod to the Works Astons that competed in Le Mans complete with a distinctive red bonnet grill.
Once the Aston made its way back to the Northeast it was disassembled and stripped to bare metal. The necessary metalwork was performed to bring the car up to spec before applying its wonderful hue of Midnight Blue. The interior was left sparse and a pair of tight fitting, period correct tartan bucket seats were installed along with a removable roll bar, safety harnesses, and fire extinguisher. The door panels, sills and other remaining leather was refreshed, but left in its original state, showing a slight patina that not only looks beautiful, but further enhances the historic feel of this wonderful driving machine.
Do not be fooled, this Aston is not all show; there is ample power to back up its good looks as well. The original engine was completely rebuilt to period Vantage specs having the cams reground by Four Ashes, and the crank built up and brought to Vantage Specs. The engine also received larger Le Mans Spec SU carburetors, a custom aluminum radiator and oil cooler.
On the road this car is a delight to drive, at home on the fast twisty roads of California or a run up the highway to the local racing circuit. The period correct Dunlop racing tires offer ample grip and confidence inspiring stability.
Eligible for the California Mille, Colorado Grand and of course the Mille Migilia along with various historic racing events and concourse shows. The car is being sold with its original seats, and build sheet, as well as restoration documents and photographs.
