1963 Kellison J6 - $49,950 - Walnut Creek, CA -

1963 Kellison J6,  There are some people who think the Jaguar D, a race car from the 50’s, was the most beautiful, sexiest car ever designed.

I personally am one of those people who love this car. http://www.coventryracers.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_D-Type  “The first factory production D-Type (XKD-509) was sold at Bonhams auction for £2,201,500 in July 2008. The previous highest confirmed price was £1,706,000, set in 1999.0”

Jaguar built very few of these fast and exotic race cars, but , in the late 50’s  Jim Kellison in Sacramento was inspired to design and manufacturer a fiberglass kit car modeled after the “D” Jaguar. In the late 50’s he started selling his Kellison J-4 fiberglass body kit car. The “J” stood for “Jim”, his first name, and the “4” was the fourth letter of the alphabet, “D”. There were mistakes with the J-4 design, so Jim introduced the J-5.  Soon again the mistakes were obvious, and he introduced the Kellison J-6 as his final correction.

I first met Jim Kellison in 1962 in Sacramento at his shop. I was interested in a J-5 which I had seen just one week before. After giving me a shop tour, he suggested I wait a few months until his new J-6 model was available. I waited, and bought one of the first hand laid J-6 bodies he made.  I choose a J-6/’61 Corvette frame combo. I was just 19, and it seemed logical to have the body factory mounted to the frame. During my building process, I asked lots of question so that I was sure it went together right.  The mounting of the engine/transmission and radiator were particularly important. Also, if the car was to be “a street driver” a factory Corvette frame should be used. Kellison made a snazzy looking box frame for drag racing, but he told me his frame would crack if street driven because it didn’t flex like a Corvette frame.

I registered my car on July 9th, 1964 in California as a 1963 SPCNS (Special Construction). The original pink slip and current registration that I was issued will transfer the car without any issues. My car has always been smog exempt.

Some of the features that makes this Kellison J-6 “Special" are it was built with a factory Corvette frame which was designed to flex, there has been only one owner/driver/builder, proper placement of the engine/transmission, radiator for good handling, legally California DMV registered as 1963 SPCNS, comfortable road car, easy and inexpensive to service, and always "a different looking car" when parked or driving down the road.

What will make the new owner "Special" is: they will demand the unique features of this Kellison J-6 and they are successful enough to have $49,950 to spend. Also they will want a car they can drive, rather than just “have” or “show”.
Low miles on a '70 Chevy 350/Automatic, estimated top speed 180+ (I've had it to 155 mph) Fresh paint included.
