Arguably the most popular year for Grand Sport enthusiasts! The 1970 model was the first year to offer true big block performance from Buick, and with it came some their best designs into the muscle car era! This included the 455ci V8 engine, Stage I engine upgrades, and the ever famous GSX appearance package!
We are very proud to offer this 1970 Buick GS455 convertible. This gorgeous factory Fire Red (75A) over Pearl White (185) bucket seat example comes extremely well equipped with favorable options! Starting with the powerful number’s matching 455ci V8 producing 350 horsepower and an incredible 510 lb ft of torque at only 2800 rpm, these cars created the most torque of any American production car to that date! Other factory equipment included the TH400 automatic transmission, AM/FM pushbutton radio with windshield antenna & rear seat speaker, Strato-bucket seats with center console, power brakes with finned drums up front for aided cooling, power steering, power convertible top, Rally steering wheel, polished 15x7” styled wheels & new period-correct Goodyear Polyglas G60-15 tires, wheel lip & rocker panel moldings, instrumentation group with temp, oil pressure, & fuel gauges, Rallye clock, and remote control driver side mirror!
This particular car has had approximately 3 owners from new, all of whom kepp it tucked away in the garage with very little use. The former owner of 23 years decided to have this car entirely restored as age alone had taken its toll on the paint and components. The original, numbers match SR-coded 455ci V8 was overhauled with no need for an overbore, and fitted with new pistons & rings, fresh cam, rod, a& main bearings, new camshaft & lifters, and all new gaskets. The heads were fitted with new valve guides to run on today’s unleaded fuels, and the original 1970 Buick Rochester Quadrajet carburetor (7040240) was rebuilt. The transmission and original 10-bolt rear axle were treated to a complete reseal as well. All suspension bushings, ball joints, tie-rod ends, sway bar links, shocks, etc. were replaced for new, as were the mufflers, tires, brakes, etc. The attention to detail was not overlooked with 1970 date-coded spark plug wires, correct T3 headlamps, under hood stickers, insulation, labeled hoses & tower clamps, AC oil filter, Delco battery cover, and firewall markings! While the mechanicals were overhauled, the exterior was repainted, all chrome re-plated, weather stripped replaced, and an all new interior & correct white convertible top installed. It retains all original LOF side glass, original owner’s manual, factory buildsheet, and all tire changing equipment.
Only 1,416 of these GS455 convertibles were ever sold to the public in 1970 making them one of the hardest cars to find on the market today! Make no mistake, 1970 is the last year of performance-inspired street machines in the eyes of many collectors. With insurance and emission standards on the rise, production cars after 1971 just weren’t the same. With this list of options, superb color combination, beautiful restoration, and undeniable rarity accompanying this vehicle, you just can’t miss on the future investment potential if it’s parked in your own garage!
